The intake structure is a concrete reservoir measuring 95 meters in length, with a variable width of 48 to 91 meters and a depth of 12 meters, designed to pump water at a capacity of 4,500,000 cubic meters per day.
The construction of the intake structure required excavation of approximately 300,000 cubic meters. Following this, concrete work was carried out, including the foundation and internal walls, totaling about 30,000 cubic meters, with reinforcement of 5,000 tons.
The intake structure is equipped with three cranes with capacities of 50+20 tons, 15 tons, and 5 tons located around the pumps, trash screens, and gates.
The intake structure has seven active inlets. At the beginning of the intake structure, there is a Bar Screen designed to remove larger materials over 25 millimeters, followed by a Band Screen that captures particles larger than 3 millimeters.
Nineteen 1,640-kilowatt pumps are designated for transferring seawater from the intake to the desalination facilities, of which 14 are operational and 5 are on standby.
The chlorinated water from the intake is transported through pipelines on land to the desalination units.
